On October 30, 2026, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff released the [Final Safety Evaluation Report for Long Mott Generating Station](https://www.world-nuclear-news.org/articles/texas-smr-plant-moves-to-final-permitting-stage?ref=insidedeeptech.com), the proposed four-unit X-energy Xe-100 plant next to Dow's Seadrift chemical complex in Texas. Both of the primary reviews, safety and environmental, are now done. The construction permit itself is still waiting on a Commission vote.

That puts X-energy Xe-100 at the same regulatory cliff TerraPower Natrium cleared in March 2026, with a different product: a pebble-bed high-temperature gas-cooled reactor that sells electricity and 565 C industrial steam from the same module, and a fuel plant under construction in Oak Ridge.

This full guide covers how the Xe-100 works, TRISO-X fuel, the four-pack plant, Dow Seadrift and Amazon Cascade, the Centrica UK fleet plan, licensing, money, how it compares with Natrium, Oklo Aurora and NuScale, and the honest limits, all as of November 6, 2026.

Last updated: November 6, 2026.

## Key Takeaways

- **X-energy Xe-100** is an [80 MWe / 200 MWt pebble-bed HTGR](https://x-energy.com/xe-100/?ref=insidedeeptech.com) that ships as a four-pack of about 320 MWe, with steam at roughly 565 C for power or industrial heat.
- NRC staff finished the [Long Mott Final Safety Evaluation Report on October 30, 2026](https://www.world-nuclear-news.org/articles/texas-smr-plant-moves-to-final-permitting-stage?ref=insidedeeptech.com); the construction permit for Dow's Seadrift four-unit plant still needs a Commission decision.
- Amazon and Energy Northwest are advancing Cascade in Washington for [four modules (320 MW), expandable to 12 (960 MW)](https://www.aboutamazon.com/news/sustainability/amazon-smr-nuclear-energy?ref=insidedeeptech.com), inside a wider Amazon push for more than 5 GW of new nuclear by 2039.
- TRISO-X TX-1 in Oak Ridge is under construction, sized for about [700,000 pebbles a year, enough for up to 11 Xe-100 reactors](https://www.energy.gov/ne/articles/x-energy-starts-building-construction-advanced-nuclear-fuel-facility?ref=insidedeeptech.com), to fuel the first commercial Xe-100 cores.
- Honest limit: no Xe-100 is operating yet, Long Mott's permit is not issued, Cascade's construction-permit application is not filed, and first-of-a-kind cost and HALEU supply remain open risks.

💡

Inside Deep Tech's take: Xe-100 is the industrial-heat play in the U.S. advanced-reactor race. Natrium wins on storage and a real construction permit. Oklo wins on small-campus modularity. Xe-100 wins if Dow, Amazon and Centrica need firm megawatts plus high-temperature steam from one standardized module. The FSER is a real milestone. The Commission vote, Dow's final investment decision and TX-1 fuel production are the next three gates.

## What X-energy Xe-100 actually is

X-energy Xe-100 is a small modular high-temperature gas-cooled reactor. X-energy's product page lists each module at [80 megawatts electric and 200 megawatts thermal](https://x-energy.com/xe-100/?ref=insidedeeptech.com), with a graphite-moderated pebble bed, helium coolant and proprietary TRISO-X coated-particle fuel.

The design goal is dual output from one standardized reactor: grid electricity and high-temperature process steam. X-energy says the steam generator delivers steam at temperatures up to about [565 C](https://x-energy.com/xe-100/?ref=insidedeeptech.com), well above the roughly 300 C steam from conventional light-water reactors that X-energy cites in its [FAQs](https://x-energy.com/faqs/?ref=insidedeeptech.com). That temperature band matters for chemicals, refining and some hydrogen pathways.

The company packages the reactor as a multi-unit plant. The standard commercial block is a four-pack totaling [320 MWe](https://x-energy.com/xe-100/?ref=insidedeeptech.com). Sites such as Cascade and the Indiana evaluation are planned around stacking those blocks up to twelve units, or about 960 MWe, according to [Amazon](https://www.aboutamazon.com/news/sustainability/amazon-smr-nuclear-energy?ref=insidedeeptech.com) and X-energy's [deployments page](https://x-energy.com/deployments/?ref=insidedeeptech.com).

X-energy is not pitching a microreactor for a single building. It is pitching a factory-built nuclear island that can sit next to a chemical plant, a utility switchyard or a hyperscale load, with a compact emergency planning zone X-energy puts at about [400 meters](https://x-energy.com/faqs/?ref=insidedeeptech.com).

Treat marketing equivalences (homes powered, land-use percentages) as scale cues, not measured operating data. No commercial Xe-100 has run yet.

## How Xe-100 makes power and steam

Most U.S. reactors use water as both coolant and moderator. Xe-100 separates those jobs: graphite moderates neutrons, helium moves heat, and the fuel itself is the primary containment for fission products.

### The pebble bed

The core is a bed of spherical graphite pebbles that move slowly downward. The NRC topical report describes a non-stationary core of about [220,000 pebbles](https://www.nrc.gov/docs/ML2406/ML24067A310.pdf?ref=insidedeeptech.com), each holding roughly [19,000 TRISO particles](https://www.nrc.gov/docs/ML2406/ML24067A310.pdf?ref=insidedeeptech.com) in a graphite matrix. Pebbles recirculate until they reach target burnup, which is how the design supports continuous online refueling instead of multi-week outages.

### Helium and the steam generator

Pressurized helium absorbs heat from the fuel and graphite and exits the vessel near [750 C](https://www.nrc.gov/docs/ML2406/ML24067A310.pdf?ref=insidedeeptech.com). Hot helium crosses into a steam generator where heat transfers into a separate water loop. X-energy says the loops stay physically isolated so that only heat, not radioactivity, moves into the secondary circuit, and the steam side can drive a turbine or feed industrial customers at about [565 C](https://x-energy.com/xe-100/?ref=insidedeeptech.com).

### Passive safety case

X-energy's safety pitch rests on physics rather than large emergency diesel fleets. If temperatures rise, negative temperature feedback slows fission. TRISO particles are designed to retain fission products at temperatures exceeding [1,600 C](https://x-energy.com/faqs/?ref=insidedeeptech.com), which is why DOE language quoted by X-energy calls TRISO the [most robust nuclear fuel on Earth](https://x-energy.com/faqs/?ref=insidedeeptech.com). Low power density and graphite heat capacity are meant to let the core reject decay heat without pumps or offsite power.

That case is why the company advertises a [400-meter emergency planning zone](https://x-energy.com/faqs/?ref=insidedeeptech.com) instead of the roughly ten-mile zones around large light-water plants. Siting next to an operating chemical works or near large load growth is the commercial point of that claim. Regulators still have to accept it plant by plant.

## TRISO-X fuel and the Oak Ridge factory

Fuel is not a side quest for Xe-100\. It is the product's other half. X-energy manufactures proprietary TRISO-X through its TRISO-X subsidiary, so the reactor and the fuel plant are meant to scale together.

TRISO (tri-structural isotropic) fuel puts a uranium kernel, typically UCO for Xe-100, inside successive ceramic coatings that act as a microscopic containment vessel. X-energy's FAQs say a particle is [designed not to melt even above 1,600 C](https://x-energy.com/faqs/?ref=insidedeeptech.com). The NRC topical puts enrichment for Xe-100 fuel at up to [15.5 weight percent](https://www.nrc.gov/docs/ML2406/ML24067A310.pdf?ref=insidedeeptech.com), which places it in the high-assay low-enriched uranium (HALEU) band.

### TX-1 under construction

The first commercial fabrication plant, TX-1, sits in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. X-energy awarded Clark Construction a [$48.2 million building phase](https://x-energy.com/news/x-energy-selects-clark-construction-group-for-48-million-building-construction-phase-of-triso-x-fuel-fabrication-facility/?ref=insidedeeptech.com) under the DOE Advanced Reactor Demonstration Program for the roughly [214,812-square-foot](https://x-energy.com/news/x-energy-selects-clark-construction-group-for-48-million-building-construction-phase-of-triso-x-fuel-fabrication-facility/?ref=insidedeeptech.com) shell. DOE's Office of Nuclear Energy separately notes the plant is designed to fabricate around [700,000 TRISO pebbles a year, enough fuel for 11 Xe-100 modules](https://www.energy.gov/ne/articles/x-energy-starts-building-construction-advanced-nuclear-fuel-facility?ref=insidedeeptech.com).

DOE notes that once licensed, [operations are projected to start the following year](https://www.energy.gov/ne/articles/x-energy-starts-building-construction-advanced-nuclear-fuel-facility?ref=insidedeeptech.com), with initial fuel production supporting X-energy's first commercial reactor with Dow. X-energy describes TX-1 on its [deployments page](https://x-energy.com/deployments/?ref=insidedeeptech.com) as a first-in-the-nation commercial TRISO fuel facility of about 214,000 square feet producing roughly 700,000 pebbles a year.

A larger TX-2 plant is in design next door under the same Part 70 license concept, for fleet-scale throughput later. Until TX-1 makes commercial pebbles, every announced Xe-100 plant is still writing a fuel IOU.

## Plant architecture: the four-pack and beyond

One Xe-100 module is 80 MWe. X-energy sells plants, not single toys. The commercial baseline is four modules sharing a site, for [320 MWe](https://x-energy.com/xe-100/?ref=insidedeeptech.com). Cascade's full vision stacks three of those blocks into [960 MW across 12 modules](https://www.aboutamazon.com/news/sustainability/amazon-smr-nuclear-energy?ref=insidedeeptech.com). Centrica's preferred Hartlepool first project is likewise framed as a [12-unit, up to 960 MW](https://x-energy.com/news/centrica-and-x-energy-sign-joint-development-agreement-to-deploy-uks-first-advanced-modular-reactors/?ref=insidedeeptech.com) deployment inside a larger UK fleet target.

Modular construction is the schedule thesis. Factory-fabricated nuclear components ship by road or rail, site work focuses on civil structures and balance of plant, and units can come online one at a time as load grows. X-energy's FAQs lean on that phased-capacity story for AI and data-center buyers who do not want a single 1 GW cliff.

The same modularity is why industrial heat customers matter. A chemical complex can take steam from one or more modules while exporting surplus power. That is the Dow Seadrift pitch in one sentence.

## Customers and deployments: Dow, Amazon, Centrica

### Long Mott Generating Station at Dow Seadrift, Texas

Long Mott Energy, a Dow subsidiary, filed a construction permit application on [March 31, 2025](https://www.world-nuclear-news.org/articles/texas-smr-plant-moves-to-final-permitting-stage?ref=insidedeeptech.com) for four Xe-100 units at Seadrift Operations on the Texas Gulf Coast. The plant would supply electricity and process steam to Dow and export surplus power to the grid. X-energy calls it the first grid-scale advanced nuclear reactor proposed to serve a U.S. industrial facility.

The NRC completed an Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact in [May 2026](https://www.world-nuclear-news.org/articles/texas-smr-plant-moves-to-final-permitting-stage?ref=insidedeeptech.com), then issued its Final Safety Evaluation Report on [October 30, 2026](https://www.world-nuclear-news.org/articles/texas-smr-plant-moves-to-final-permitting-stage?ref=insidedeeptech.com). Staff concluded the proposed plant and site provide the safety basis to begin construction. World Nuclear News reported that the agency told followers to [stay tuned for a construction permit announcement soon](https://www.world-nuclear-news.org/articles/texas-smr-plant-moves-to-final-permitting-stage?ref=insidedeeptech.com), but as of November 6, 2026 the Commission decision date is still listed as to be determined.

Long Mott is also the pathfinder for the licensing framework. It is the [first HTGR construction-permit application](https://www.world-nuclear-news.org/articles/texas-smr-plant-moves-to-final-permitting-stage?ref=insidedeeptech.com) reviewed under the NRC's technology-inclusive, risk-informed, performance-based approach. X-energy spent years in pre-application engagement and topical reports so later Xe-100 sites can reuse that technical base.

### Cascade Advanced Energy Facility with Amazon and Energy Northwest

In Washington state, Energy Northwest plans to own and operate Cascade next to the existing Columbia Generating Station near Richland. Amazon describes first-phase capacity of [four Xe-100 modules totaling 320 MW](https://www.aboutamazon.com/news/sustainability/amazon-smr-nuclear-energy?ref=insidedeeptech.com), with an option to expand to [12 units and 960 MW](https://www.aboutamazon.com/news/sustainability/amazon-smr-nuclear-energy?ref=insidedeeptech.com). Construction is expected by the end of the decade, with operations targeted for the 2030s.

Amazon's Climate Pledge Fund invested in X-energy as part of a plan to help bring [more than 5 gigawatts of new nuclear to the U.S. grid by 2039](https://www.aboutamazon.com/news/sustainability/amazon-smr-nuclear-energy?ref=insidedeeptech.com). Energy Northwest and Amazon are advancing site, environmental and licensing work ahead of a construction-permit application, with operations targeted for the [2030s](https://www.aboutamazon.com/news/sustainability/amazon-smr-nuclear-energy?ref=insidedeeptech.com). The construction-permit application itself is still ahead of the project.

Cascade is the hyperscaler proof point. It is also still earlier than Long Mott on the NRC calendar.

### Centrica in the United Kingdom

In September 2025, Centrica and X-energy signed a joint development agreement to deploy Xe-100 plants in the UK and pursue a national fleet of up to [6 gigawatts](https://x-energy.com/news/centrica-and-x-energy-sign-joint-development-agreement-to-deploy-uks-first-advanced-modular-reactors/?ref=insidedeeptech.com). Hartlepool is the preferred first site. A 12-unit project there could add up to [960 MW](https://x-energy.com/news/centrica-and-x-energy-sign-joint-development-agreement-to-deploy-uks-first-advanced-modular-reactors/?ref=insidedeeptech.com), with first electricity generation expected in the mid-2030s subject to regulation and financing.

That deal matters because it shows the export product is the same four-to-twelve-unit plant sold in Texas and Washington, not a UK-only redesign. UK Generic Design Assessment work has since advanced separately; treat schedule claims as political and commercial, not licensed facts.

### Other pipeline

X-energy's deployments map also lists a [960 MW, 12-unit evaluation in Sullivan County, Indiana](https://x-energy.com/deployments/?ref=insidedeeptech.com) with AEP and Amazon. In Canada, an Emissions Reduction Alberta-backed study with TransAlta confirmed feasibility of repurposing a thermal site with Xe-100 modules ([September 2025](https://x-energy.com/news/x-energy-confirms-feasibility-of-xe-100-advanced-small-modular-reactor-deployment-in-alberta/?ref=insidedeeptech.com)). An older Ontario Power Generation framework from 2022 remains exploratory. None of those are licensed builds.

## The licensing path: FSER done, permit not yet issued

U.S. Xe-100 projects are pursuing the NRC's two-step Part 50 process: construction permit first, operating license later. Long Mott is the lead docket. X-energy's regulatory milestones page describes an [18-month construction-permit review schedule](https://x-energy.com/regulatory-milestones/?ref=insidedeeptech.com) that the staff has now essentially completed on the safety and environmental tracks.

What remains is Commission action. A Final Safety Evaluation Report is not a permit. TerraPower Natrium showed the pattern earlier in 2026: staff finish, then commissioners vote, then staff issue the permit document. Until that vote lands for Long Mott, Dow cannot start safety-related nuclear construction under a construction permit.

⚠️

What the FSER does not do: it does not authorize construction or operation. Dow and X-energy still need the construction permit, then a separate operating license before fuel load. Financing and Dow's final investment decision sit outside the NRC's paper entirely.

Cascade will file its own construction-permit application after site analyses. Indiana and UK paths have their own regulators. The Long Mott review is precedent, not a free pass.

## Money: ARDP, the IPO and who is paying

Xe-100's first U.S. demonstration rides on the DOE Advanced Reactor Demonstration Program. In October 2020, DOE awarded TerraPower and X-energy [$80 million each in initial funding](https://www.energy.gov/ne/articles/us-department-energy-announces-160-million-first-awards-under-advanced-reactor?ref=insidedeeptech.com) under ARDP, with a multi-year cost-shared envelope behind them. When X-energy signed its cooperative agreement in March 2021, it described a roughly [$2.5 billion project](https://x-energy.com/news/x-energy-signs-department-of-energys-advanced-reactor-demonstration-program-ardp-cooperative-agreement/?ref=insidedeeptech.com) with DOE investing about [$1.23 billion over seven years](https://x-energy.com/news/x-energy-signs-department-of-energys-advanced-reactor-demonstration-program-ardp-cooperative-agreement/?ref=insidedeeptech.com) into the demonstration, including the reactor plant and commercial TRISO fuel fabrication.

Company FAQs today round that federal support to about [$1.2 billion in cost-shared funding](https://x-energy.com/faqs/?ref=insidedeeptech.com) for the first Xe-100 deployment and the TRISO-X facility. TX-1's Clark Construction award is explicitly an [ARDP-funded building phase](https://x-energy.com/news/x-energy-selects-clark-construction-group-for-48-million-building-construction-phase-of-triso-x-fuel-fabrication-facility/?ref=insidedeeptech.com).

On the private side, Amazon's Climate Pledge Fund is a strategic capital investor in X-energy, tied to the [5 GW-by-2039](https://www.aboutamazon.com/news/sustainability/amazon-smr-nuclear-energy?ref=insidedeeptech.com) deployment ambition. Centrica is putting early development capital into the UK joint work under the [Hartlepool JDA](https://x-energy.com/news/centrica-and-x-energy-sign-joint-development-agreement-to-deploy-uks-first-advanced-modular-reactors/?ref=insidedeeptech.com).

None of that substitutes for project finance on Long Mott or Cascade. First-of-a-kind nuclear still needs a credit story once the permit exists.

## Xe-100 vs Natrium vs Oklo Aurora vs NuScale

Operators shopping advanced nuclear for AI campuses and industrial heat are really choosing among a few near-term designs. Inside Deep Tech's [TerraPower Natrium guide](https://www.insidedeeptech.com/terrapower-natrium-kemmerer-sodium-reactor-full-guide/), [Oklo Aurora guide](https://www.insidedeeptech.com/oklo-aurora-powerhouse-fast-reactor-full-guide/) and [SMR overview](https://www.insidedeeptech.com/small-modular-reactors-nuclear-power-ai-data-centers/) cover three of them in depth. Here is the honest side-by-side as of November 2026.

Pick Xe-100 when high-temperature steam and industrial co-location matter. Pick Natrium when you want a single large block with built-in storage and a permit already in hand. Pick Oklo when you want smaller sodium units behind the fence. Pick NuScale when you want a light-water SMR with an approved standard design and are willing to wait for a financed first plant.

## What Xe-100 means for AI data centers

Hyperscalers do not buy reactor brochures. They buy firm megawatts on a date. Amazon's Cascade stake and 5 GW ambition put Xe-100 on that shortlist, but the near-term stack for campuses that need power in 2027 and 2028 is still gas, batteries, interconnect queues and behind-the-meter deals, as Inside Deep Tech's [behind-the-meter generation guide](https://www.insidedeeptech.com/behind-the-meter-generation-ai-data-centers-full-guide/) lays out.

Where Xe-100 can matter in the 2030s is phased capacity: add 80 MWe modules as racks fill, keep a tight emergency planning zone, and optionally co-locate with industrial heat hosts that already have heavy infrastructure. Air cooling flexibility, which X-energy flags in its [FAQs](https://x-energy.com/faqs/?ref=insidedeeptech.com), also helps in water-constrained regions.

It is not a substitute for interconnects, and it is not fusion. For the fusion side of the same 2030s power conversation, see Inside Deep Tech's [Commonwealth Fusion Systems SPARC guide](https://www.insidedeeptech.com/commonwealth-fusion-systems-sparc-full-guide/) and [Helion guide](https://www.insidedeeptech.com/helion-energy-polaris-orion-fusion-full-guide/).

## Honest limits: where the Xe-100 story can break

Xe-100 has real customers, a finished FSER and a fuel plant rising in Oak Ridge. These are the five places the timeline or the thesis can still break.

### 1\. No construction permit yet

Staff reviews are complete for Long Mott, but the [Commission has not issued a construction permit](https://www.world-nuclear-news.org/articles/texas-smr-plant-moves-to-final-permitting-stage?ref=insidedeeptech.com) as of November 6, 2026\. A delay, conditions or litigation after the vote would push every schedule that assumes Texas FOAK learning.

### 2\. Dow still has to say yes to building

A permit is necessary, not sufficient. Dow has been clear that construction depends on meeting its return targets and on project financing. Industrial FOAK nuclear can stall after the regulatory win if the spreadsheet does not clear.

### 3\. Fuel fabrication is unfinished

TX-1 is still under construction, with DOE projecting [operations after licensing to support the first commercial cores](https://www.energy.gov/ne/articles/x-energy-starts-building-construction-advanced-nuclear-fuel-facility?ref=insidedeeptech.com). Until pebbles ship, first cores depend on a plant that has not operated. HALEU enrichment supply is a parallel constraint shared with Natrium and Oklo.

### 4\. Cascade and the UK are earlier than Texas

Amazon's Cascade still needs its NRC construction-permit application. Centrica's mid-2030s first power assumes UK licensing, financing and Hartlepool site execution. Announced gigawatts are not the same as docketed megawatts.

### 5\. Cost and schedule are unproven

No commercial Xe-100 has been built. ARDP cost-sharing de-risks the demo, but nth-of-a-kind capital cost, construction duration and availability will only be known after Long Mott or an equivalent plant runs. Treat 95% availability and multi-gigawatt fleet claims as design targets.

🧭

Inside Deep Tech's take: Xe-100 is the clearest U.S. advanced-reactor bid for industrial heat plus firm power. The October 2026 FSER puts it one Commission vote from joining Natrium in the permitted club. Until that vote, TX-1 fuel and a Dow FID land, the 2030s Amazon and Centrica numbers remain pipeline, not fleet.

## What X-energy Xe-100 means for you

- **If you plan AI data center power:** put Cascade-class Xe-100 blocks on the 2030s shortlist, and use the [behind-the-meter guide](https://www.insidedeeptech.com/behind-the-meter-generation-ai-data-centers-full-guide/) for everything before then.
- **If you run industrial heat loads:** 565 C steam is the differentiator versus light-water SMRs. Ask for co-location EPZ, steam quality and outage philosophy, not just MWe.
- **If you compare nuclear vendors:** weigh FSER and construction permits over press-release gigawatts. Start with the [SMR guide](https://www.insidedeeptech.com/small-modular-reactors-nuclear-power-ai-data-centers/), then the [Natrium](https://www.insidedeeptech.com/terrapower-natrium-kemmerer-sodium-reactor-full-guide/) and [Oklo](https://www.insidedeeptech.com/oklo-aurora-powerhouse-fast-reactor-full-guide/) deep dives.
- **If you invest:** X-energy is public (XE). Watch Long Mott's Commission vote, TX-1 fuel milestones, Amazon deployment disclosures and Centrica UK licensing steps.

## FAQ

#### What is the X-energy Xe-100 reactor?

Xe-100 is an [80 MWe / 200 MWt pebble-bed high-temperature gas-cooled reactor](https://x-energy.com/xe-100/?ref=insidedeeptech.com) that uses helium coolant, a graphite moderator and TRISO-X coated-particle fuel. It can deliver electricity and industrial steam from the same module.

#### How big is a full Xe-100 plant?

The standard commercial plant is a four-pack totaling [320 MWe](https://x-energy.com/xe-100/?ref=insidedeeptech.com). Cascade and some export concepts plan up to [12 modules / 960 MW](https://www.aboutamazon.com/news/sustainability/amazon-smr-nuclear-energy?ref=insidedeeptech.com).

#### Where will the first Xe-100 be built?

The lead U.S. project is Long Mott Generating Station at Dow's Seadrift, Texas site: four units, [320 MWe](https://www.world-nuclear-news.org/articles/texas-smr-plant-moves-to-final-permitting-stage?ref=insidedeeptech.com). NRC staff finished the safety review on October 30, 2026; the construction permit decision is still pending.

#### What is TRISO-X fuel?

TRISO-X is X-energy's proprietary tri-structural isotropic coated-particle fuel, fabricated at the TX-1 plant under construction in Oak Ridge. DOE language quoted by X-energy calls TRISO the [most robust nuclear fuel on Earth](https://x-energy.com/faqs/?ref=insidedeeptech.com).

#### Is Amazon buying Xe-100 power?

Amazon invested in X-energy and is partnering with Energy Northwest on Cascade, starting at [320 MW with an option to 960 MW](https://www.aboutamazon.com/news/sustainability/amazon-smr-nuclear-energy?ref=insidedeeptech.com), inside a wider goal of more than 5 GW of new nuclear by 2039.

#### How does Xe-100 compare with TerraPower Natrium?

Natrium is a larger sodium fast reactor with molten salt storage and an issued NRC construction permit. Xe-100 is a smaller HTGR optimized for modular multi-unit plants and high-temperature steam. See Inside Deep Tech's [Natrium full guide](https://www.insidedeeptech.com/terrapower-natrium-kemmerer-sodium-reactor-full-guide/).

## What to watch next

Three signals decide whether Xe-100 keeps pace with Natrium. First, the NRC Commission vote on Long Mott's construction permit. Second, Dow's final investment decision and financing close after that vote. Third, whether TX-1 in Oak Ridge starts making commercial TRISO-X pebbles on the first-half-2028 target.

If you are planning industrial heat or 2030s campus power, ask vendors for EPZ assumptions, steam specs, fuel contracts and EPC terms before you ask for a headline price per megawatt.
