On June 30, 2026, Apptronik opened the expanded [Robot Park in Austin, a nearly 90,000-square-foot humanoid data factory](https://apptronik.com/news-collection/welcome-to-robot-park-where-apptroniks-apollo-goes-to-work?ref=insidedeeptech.com), and publicly unveiled [Apollo 2 in both bipedal and wheeled configurations](https://apptronik.com/news-collection/welcome-to-robot-park-where-apptroniks-apollo-goes-to-work?ref=insidedeeptech.com). The pitch is not another demo reel. It is a continuous learning loop with [Google DeepMind's Gemini Robotics models](https://apptronik.com/news-collection/welcome-to-robot-park-where-apptroniks-apollo-goes-to-work?ref=insidedeeptech.com), fed by fleets already running at the park and at customer sites.

Four months earlier, Apptronik had closed a [$520 million Series A-X that took Series A capital past $935 million and total funding to nearly $1 billion](https://apptronik.com/news-collection/apptronik-closes-over-935-million-series-a?ref=insidedeeptech.com). [CNBC reported a roughly $5 billion valuation](https://www.cnbc.com/2026/02/11/apptronik-raises-520-million-at-5-billion-valuation-for-apollo-robot.html?ref=insidedeeptech.com). That money buys production capacity, more Robot Parks, and time. It does not buy published Apollo 2 height, weight, or payload figures.

Here's the shape of the piece: what Apollo 2 actually is, how Robot Park and Gemini Robotics fit together, what the funding and partners imply, where Apollo 3 sits on the commercial path, how Apollo compares with peers on evidence rather than hype, and the honest limits buyers should price in. For the wider field, keep Inside Deep Tech's [2026 humanoid robots hub](https://www.insidedeeptech.com/humanoid-robots-2026-full-guide/) open in another tab.

💡

Inside Deep Tech's take: Apollo 2 is best read as a fleet data machine first and a shippable product second. The commercial bet is Apollo 3\. Judge Apptronik on published deployment hours, unit economics, and whether wheeled configs land factory floors before bipedal ones do.

## What Apptronik Apollo 2 actually is

Apptronik started out of the Human Centered Robotics Lab at the University of Texas at Austin and [traces Apollo to nearly a decade of work across 15 previous robots, including NASA's Valkyrie](https://apptronik.com/news-collection/apptronik-closes-over-935-million-series-a?ref=insidedeeptech.com). The first commercial Apollo form factor was [unveiled on August 23, 2023 at roughly human size: 5 foot 8 inches, 160 pounds, with a 55-pound lift rating](https://apptronik.com/news-collection/apptronik-unveils-apollo?ref=insidedeeptech.com).

Apollo 2 is the current platform Apptronik showed on June 30, 2026\. On the product page it is framed as [the physical foundation for real-world mobility, manipulation, and interaction](https://apptronik.com/apollo/apollo-2?ref=insidedeeptech.com), with a modular choice between [legs for human-shaped spaces and a wheeled base for high-throughput industrial work](https://apptronik.com/apollo/apollo-2?ref=insidedeeptech.com). That modularity is the clearest hardware difference versus most biped-only rivals.

Three named software layers sit around the body. [Artemis coordinates perception, planning, controls, safety, task execution, and human-robot interaction](https://apptronik.com/apollo/apollo-2?ref=insidedeeptech.com). [Fleet Connect is the operations layer for status, tasks, deployments, and data collection across a fleet](https://apptronik.com/apollo/apollo-2?ref=insidedeeptech.com). Embodied AI work rides on the [strategic partnership with Google DeepMind's robotics team, announced December 19, 2024](https://apptronik.com/news-collection/apptronik-partners-with-google-deepmind-robotics?ref=insidedeeptech.com), and now feeds [Gemini Robotics through Robot Park data](https://apptronik.com/news-collection/welcome-to-robot-park-where-apptroniks-apollo-goes-to-work?ref=insidedeeptech.com).

Of course, a platform description is not a datasheet. [Apptronik has not published Apollo 2 height, mass, degrees of freedom, payload, walk speed, sensor models, or battery capacity](https://apptronik.com/apollo/apollo-2?ref=insidedeeptech.com). Treat 2023 Apollo numbers as historical context, not as Apollo 2 specs.

### Bipedal vs wheeled: the modular bet

Most humanoid startups sell one body and hope the factory accepts it. Apptronik sells [two mobility options on a shared upper body](https://apptronik.com/apollo/apollo-2?ref=insidedeeptech.com). The wheeled base is pitched for [stability, travel efficiency, and alignment with existing industrial mobile-robot safety standards](https://apptronik.com/news-collection/welcome-to-robot-park-where-apptroniks-apollo-goes-to-work?ref=insidedeeptech.com). The biped is pitched for [spaces and motions designed around people](https://apptronik.com/news-collection/welcome-to-robot-park-where-apptroniks-apollo-goes-to-work?ref=insidedeeptech.com).

That split matters for buyers. Wheeled systems can often enter a plant under familiar AMR-style risk assessments. Legs still need more proof on fall modes, recovery, and floor conditions. Barry Phillips, Apptronik's chief commercial officer, put it plainly: the modular design is a [direct response to customer demand for adaptable automation while bipedal safety and reliability keep maturing](https://apptronik.com/news-collection/welcome-to-robot-park-where-apptroniks-apollo-goes-to-work?ref=insidedeeptech.com).

Inside Deep Tech's read: if Apptronik wins early volume, it will likely be on wheels in structured logistics cells, not on stairs in a mixed warehouse. The biped is the brand. The wheeled unit may be the billable SKU.

## Actuation, uptime, and the 7x22 operating model

Apptronik says Apollo 2 uses [patented actuators designed for more than 90% energy efficiency, maintainability, mass manufacturing, and reduced single-source dependency](https://apptronik.com/apollo/apollo-2?ref=insidedeeptech.com). Those are design goals stated by the company. They are not third-party efficiency measurements you can put in a purchase order.

On power, the product page emphasizes [swappable batteries intended to enable 7x22 operation](https://apptronik.com/apollo/apollo-2?ref=insidedeeptech.com), plus [opportunity charging and tethered power](https://apptronik.com/apollo/apollo-2?ref=insidedeeptech.com). 7x22 means a seven-day schedule with up to 22 operating hours a day across pack swaps. It is an operating model, not a published watt-hour number for one pack.

Human factors show up in the same product brief: an [expressive LED mouth, speech and listening hardware, and a chest display for status, battery, charging, and task progress](https://apptronik.com/apollo/apollo-2?ref=insidedeeptech.com). Safety is described as layered hardware zones: an [impact zone that pauses motion when something enters a defined radius, and a configurable perimeter zone for nearby people and equipment](https://apptronik.com/apollo/apollo-2?ref=insidedeeptech.com).

⚠️

Do not confuse 7x22 with a four-hour battery claim. Swappable packs and tethering are how Apptronik describes uptime. Per-pack runtime, chemistry, and charge time for Apollo 2 remain unpublished.

## Robot Park: the data factory behind Apollo 2

Robot Park is Apptronik's flagship [nearly 90,000-square-foot data collection and training facility in Austin](https://apptronik.com/news-collection/welcome-to-robot-park-where-apptroniks-apollo-goes-to-work?ref=insidedeeptech.com). Inside it, [Apollo 2 fleets run logistics, manufacturing, retail, and other customer-driven tasks](https://apptronik.com/news-collection/welcome-to-robot-park-where-apptroniks-apollo-goes-to-work?ref=insidedeeptech.com) through a mix of [teleoperation and autonomous execution](https://apptronik.com/news-collection/welcome-to-robot-park-where-apptroniks-apollo-goes-to-work?ref=insidedeeptech.com). The stated goal is to generate embodied training data for [Gemini Robotics](https://apptronik.com/news-collection/welcome-to-robot-park-where-apptroniks-apollo-goes-to-work?ref=insidedeeptech.com).

Austin is the anchor, not the whole network. Apptronik says similar workflows already run at [Google DeepMind and at customers including Mercedes-Benz and GXO](https://apptronik.com/news-collection/welcome-to-robot-park-where-apptroniks-apollo-goes-to-work?ref=insidedeeptech.com), with more Robot Park sites planned in other cities. CEO Jeff Cardenas framed the strategy as a [continuous learning loop: robots working, collecting data, and improving with every cycle on real tasks](https://apptronik.com/news-collection/welcome-to-robot-park-where-apptroniks-apollo-goes-to-work?ref=insidedeeptech.com).

That is the same data bottleneck every serious humanoid program hits. Demo videos are cheap. Hours of diverse, labeled contact and failure data are not. Robot Park is Apptronik's answer to that cost curve, paid for with Series A capital and partner access.

For market context on how fast industrial robot installs are already rising without humanoids, see Inside Deep Tech's [IFR World Robotics 2026 guide](https://www.insidedeeptech.com/ifr-world-robotics-2026-603k-installs-five-million-stock-full-guide/) and the [October 2026 Physical AI Market Report](https://www.insidedeeptech.com/physical-ai-market-report-october-2026/).

## Funding, valuation, and who is writing the checks

On February 11, 2026, Apptronik announced a [$520 million Series A-X extension](https://apptronik.com/news-collection/apptronik-closes-over-935-million-series-a?ref=insidedeeptech.com). That followed a [$415 million oversubscribed Series A in 2025](https://apptronik.com/news-collection/apptronik-closes-over-935-million-series-a?ref=insidedeeptech.com), bringing [Series A capital to more than $935 million and total capital raised to nearly $1 billion](https://apptronik.com/news-collection/apptronik-closes-over-935-million-series-a?ref=insidedeeptech.com). The company said the extension priced at a [3x multiple of the Series A valuation](https://apptronik.com/news-collection/apptronik-closes-over-935-million-series-a?ref=insidedeeptech.com).

[CNBC reported a valuation of about $5 billion](https://www.cnbc.com/2026/02/11/apptronik-raises-520-million-at-5-billion-valuation-for-apollo-robot.html?ref=insidedeeptech.com), with [B Capital and Google co-leading](https://www.cnbc.com/2026/02/11/apptronik-raises-520-million-at-5-billion-valuation-for-apollo-robot.html?ref=insidedeeptech.com). [Business Insider later described the company as valued at more than $5.5 billion](https://www.businessinsider.com/apptroniks-humanoid-robots-are-practicing-for-their-first-real-jobs-2026-6?ref=insidedeeptech.com). Apptronik's own release does not print a dollar valuation, so treat the press figures as reported, not as a company filing.

Repeat investors named in the company release include [B Capital, Google, Mercedes-Benz, and PEAK6](https://apptronik.com/news-collection/apptronik-closes-over-935-million-series-a?ref=insidedeeptech.com). New names include [AT&T Ventures, John Deere, and Qatar Investment Authority](https://apptronik.com/news-collection/apptronik-closes-over-935-million-series-a?ref=insidedeeptech.com). That mix is a strategic tell: automotive, logistics-adjacent capital, telecom, agriculture equipment, and sovereign capital all want a seat near the same robot.

Headcount moved with the money. The Series A post put Apptronik at [nearly 300 employees](https://apptronik.com/news-collection/apptronik-closes-over-935-million-series-a?ref=insidedeeptech.com). By the June Robot Park announcement the company said it had [more than 350 employees](https://apptronik.com/news-collection/welcome-to-robot-park-where-apptroniks-apollo-goes-to-work?ref=insidedeeptech.com). [CNBC quoted B Capital's Howard Morgan expecting at least 200 more hires over the following year](https://www.cnbc.com/2026/02/11/apptronik-raises-520-million-at-5-billion-valuation-for-apollo-robot.html?ref=insidedeeptech.com).

## Partners: Mercedes, GXO, Jabil, and DeepMind

Apptronik's [March 15, 2024 commercial agreement with Mercedes-Benz](https://apptronik.com/news-collection/apptronik-and-mercedes-benz-enter-commercial-agreement?ref=insidedeeptech.com) was its [first publicly announced commercial Apollo deployment](https://apptronik.com/news-collection/apptronik-and-mercedes-benz-enter-commercial-agreement?ref=insidedeeptech.com) and Mercedes' first named humanoid manufacturing application. Planned work included [delivering assembly kits to the line and moving kitted totes later in the process](https://apptronik.com/news-collection/apptronik-and-mercedes-benz-enter-commercial-agreement?ref=insidedeeptech.com). At unveil time Apollo was still described with the [5 foot 8 inch, 160 pound, 55-pound lift form factor](https://apptronik.com/news-collection/apptronik-and-mercedes-benz-enter-commercial-agreement?ref=insidedeeptech.com).

The Series A release also names [GXO Logistics and Jabil](https://apptronik.com/news-collection/apptronik-closes-over-935-million-series-a?ref=insidedeeptech.com) alongside Mercedes-Benz. [CNBC reported early Apollos working inside designated factory and warehouse zones bounded by external sensors and light curtains](https://www.cnbc.com/2026/02/11/apptronik-raises-520-million-at-5-billion-valuation-for-apollo-robot.html?ref=insidedeeptech.com), pausing when a person crosses the boundary. That is cell-level safety, not yet the collaborative free-roam story marketed for later generations.

On the AI side, the [December 19, 2024 DeepMind partnership](https://apptronik.com/news-collection/apptronik-partners-with-google-deepmind-robotics?ref=insidedeeptech.com) pairs Apptronik hardware with DeepMind robotics research. DeepMind's own [Gemini Robotics announcement](https://deepmind.google/blog/gemini-robotics-brings-ai-into-the-physical-world/?ref=insidedeeptech.com) positioned Gemini-based models for robots that understand, act, and react in the physical world. By mid-2026, Apptronik described Apollo 2 fleets as a [data source refining those Gemini Robotics models ahead of commercial fleet deployment](https://apptronik.com/news-collection/welcome-to-robot-park-where-apptroniks-apollo-goes-to-work?ref=insidedeeptech.com).

Here's why that partnership matters for you as a buyer. Hardware without a learning stack ages into a teleop prop. A learning stack without durable hardware stays in the lab. Apptronik is betting the combination is the scarce asset, not either piece alone.

## Apollo 3 and the path from pilot to product

Apptronik is explicit that Apollo 2 is not the end state. [Everything learned on Apollo 2 is meant to power Apollo 3, described as the next-generation commercial product](https://apptronik.com/news-collection/welcome-to-robot-park-where-apptroniks-apollo-goes-to-work?ref=insidedeeptech.com). [Business Insider reported Apollo 3 as the version Apptronik plans to sell for commercial work, still in development as of the June 2026 Robot Park opening](https://www.businessinsider.com/apptroniks-humanoid-robots-are-practicing-for-their-first-real-jobs-2026-6?ref=insidedeeptech.com).

Before the public unveil, [A3's Automate.org interview with Cardenas said the newest Apollo had already been in facilities for roughly a year, in commercial pilots and DeepMind work, and that Apptronik had produced more units of the new system than of the 2023 predecessor](https://www.automate.org/robotics/industry-insights/this-years-model-apptroniks-next-apollo-is-nearly-ready-for-its-closeup?ref=insidedeeptech.com). That interview also put the Series A near [$1 billion with a $5+ billion valuation](https://www.automate.org/robotics/industry-insights/this-years-model-apptroniks-next-apollo-is-nearly-ready-for-its-closeup?ref=insidedeeptech.com).

[CNBC quoted Howard Morgan expecting orders for about $1 billion worth of robots starting in 2027, delivered at roughly $80,000 a year](https://www.cnbc.com/2026/02/11/apptronik-raises-520-million-at-5-billion-valuation-for-apollo-robot.html?ref=insidedeeptech.com). That is an investor expectation, not a company backlog disclosure. Price it accordingly.

Inside Deep Tech's take: treat 2026 as a pilot-and-data year and 2027 as the first year commercial claims can be falsified. Until Apptronik publishes unit deliveries, utilization, and failure rates, Apollo remains a platform story.

## How Apollo 2 stacks up on evidence

Buyers should compare humanoids on published deployments, not on press valuations. Agility has already put Digit into multi-site logistics work with public hour counts. Figure has published BMW production results. Boston Dynamics has Hyundai's RMAC factory program. Apptronik has named partners and a data factory, but not audited Apollo 2 operating hours.

## Honest limits

First, datasheet silence. [Apollo 2's product page does not publish height, weight, DoF, payload, speed, sensor bill of materials, or pack capacity](https://apptronik.com/apollo/apollo-2?ref=insidedeeptech.com). Any guide that reprints 2023's [5 foot 8 inch / 160 pound / 55-pound figures](https://apptronik.com/news-collection/apptronik-unveils-apollo?ref=insidedeeptech.com) as Apollo 2 specs is mixing generations.

Second, safety maturity. Current partner cells use [designated areas with light curtains and pause behavior](https://www.cnbc.com/2026/02/11/apptronik-raises-520-million-at-5-billion-valuation-for-apollo-robot.html?ref=insidedeeptech.com). Hardware zone language on the product page is real engineering, but it is not the same as a published collaborative safety case for free bipedal roaming on a mixed floor.

Third, commercial timing. [Apollo 3 is the stated commercial product](https://apptronik.com/news-collection/welcome-to-robot-park-where-apptroniks-apollo-goes-to-work?ref=insidedeeptech.com). Until Apptronik publishes delivery schedules, list economics, and field MTBF, Series A capital is fuel, not proof of product-market fit.

Fourth, valuation vs evidence. A [reported \~$5 billion mark](https://www.cnbc.com/2026/02/11/apptronik-raises-520-million-at-5-billion-valuation-for-apollo-robot.html?ref=insidedeeptech.com) on [nearly $1 billion raised](https://apptronik.com/news-collection/apptronik-closes-over-935-million-series-a?ref=insidedeeptech.com) prices in a manufacturing and AI outcome that Robot Park is still generating data to support. That can be rational. It is not the same as a shipped robot P&L.

Fifth, competition. Chinese humanoid makers, Tesla Optimus, Figure, Agility, and Unitree are all racing the same logistics and manufacturing wedge. Apptronik's edge is partner depth and DeepMind data, not a monopoly on form factor.

## Inside Deep Tech's take

Inside Deep Tech's take: Apptronik is one of the few Western humanoid teams that admits wheels may ship before legs do useful work. That honesty is a feature. The risk is that Robot Park becomes an expensive content studio if Gemini Robotics progress and customer utilization do not convert into Apollo 3 orders with public metrics.

The bull case is clean: modular hardware, hyperscaler AI partnership, automotive and logistics logos, and nearly a billion dollars to industrialize. The bear case is also clean: unpublished Apollo 2 specs, pilot cells behind light curtains, and a commercial SKU that still lives on a slide.

## What to watch next

Three markers will matter more than the next funding rumor. First, whether Apptronik publishes Apollo 2 or Apollo 3 datasheet numbers that survive outside marketing. Second, whether wheeled fleets clear named factory safety cases at Mercedes, GXO, or Jabil with utilization figures. Third, whether Gemini Robotics progress shows up as measurable autonomy hours, not only as research demos.

Until those land, treat Apollo 2 as what Apptronik says it is: a modular learning platform with serious partners and serious capital.
